Edyta Stein – German doctor of philosophy of Jewish descent who turned to Catholicism. Born in Wrocław, executed in Auschwitz, proclaimed saint by pope John Paul II.
That’s what we hear most often about the great philosopher. However that’s not all we should know about the woman who devoted her whole life to ascertaining human soul. Who are the people raised to holiness to most of us? Plastic figures sold during fairs or someone more?
Show directed by Elżbieta Bednarska is not just about the life of Edyta Stein. It’s also about answering some of the crucial questions concerning our existence. How much are individual’s actions determined by material goods? What is it we truly believe in? Is actual cult of the saints an imposed rule or a result of people’s inner needs?
Provocative performance “W pośpiechu do nieba” (Hastily towards the Heaven) tries to answer all these questions and break us out from rush of the life in order to, even for a short moment, set free the spirit closed in a body.
