Straight from Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Polish theatre company Teatr Arka is bringing its tale about Stephen Hawking to Barking.
The Ball at Stephen Hawking’s is a brand new play that uses the persona of the famous scientist to have a broader discussion about the cultural and social status of people with disabilities.
It explores the concepts of what a ‘healthy’ body is, whether it be just physical or spiritual too, and addresses the prejudices that people with disabilities face, especially concerning their own sexuality and carnal desires.
And just like its subject matter, the theatre company consists of a rich mix of differently abled actors.
The Arc Theatre in Abbey Road, Barking, is hosting the troupe from Wroclaw for three performances next week.
Arc’s Artistic Director, Carole Pluckrose said, “This is an incredibly exciting project both for Arc and for the Borough as a whole. We are really keen to reach out to the local Polish community and also to demonstrate the richness of Polish theatrical culture.”
Performances (in a mix of Polish and English) are on Thursday 15, Friday 16 and Saturday 17 and start at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £13.50. For more information and to book call 020 8594 1095 or email: email@example.com
